I knew it would happen eventually. I’ve reached the point in the year when I am completely unmotivated to do anything. I have no motivation to work, or write, or create those pretty printables you all love. I’m stressed out with the end of the school year hustle (all the mamas feel me on this one I’m sure). All I can do is dream about sandy beaches, camping trips, and days (that start at 10) lounging by the pool. I just can’t get motivated, no matter what.
I love summer. It’s such a lazy and relaxing time for me. My schedule is more relaxed, my kids are home, and we are free to do whatever we want.
I still have to work, though, so it’s time to kick my own butt into gear. Even those lazy-hazy days of summer won’t mean the end of my work responsibilities. So, how do you motivate yourself to work when it’s the very last thing on your mind?
It all comes down to finding my why.
They say that when your why is clear, the how and the when are easy. When you are clearly focused on why you chose this journey, this business, this task…you can find the motivation you need. In fact, you won’t even have to search for it! A clear enough why is motivation all on it’s own.
I needed the reminder today, as I struggled to sit down at the computer. I needed to remember exactly why I chose to start this blog.
Helping other mamas out is such a passionate project of mine. If your dream is to run a business and stay home with your kids, I want to help you with that. How can I do that if I’m not out here on the blog, sharing what I know?
My other why is my family. They are the reason I work so hard at building this blog into a business. I could write for free. Sure. But, how would that benefit my kids? My husband? I want to help us build a life we love. A life we don’t need a vacation from. Every day, I remind myself of the end goals, and that is what brings me to the computer, when what I really want to do is drink coffee and play around on Facebook in my nice, comfy recliner.
How to Find Your Why
Your why is your reason behind your business. Why did you choose to start it? Of course, you wanted to make money- we all do! But, what made you choose this particular business venture to pursue? Is there a passion behind it?
You might not have a why yet. That’s okay. That means that you have an opportunity to re-evaluate your goals and come up with one!
Some things to consider when finding your why:
- What are you passionate about?
- What are your goals?
- Who are you doing this for?
- Who are you doing this with?
- What makes you mad?
By considering these questions, you should be able to find your why and get motivated to work on your business.
How to Use Your Why to Get Motivated
On days like today, when I have a hard time getting up and getting to work, all I have to do is think back to my why and that gives me the motivation I need to complete my tasks for the day. Helping other mamas pursue their passions and reach their goals is a huge priority for me. Helping my family reach our goals together is a big motivator, too!
I like to keep my why written down, so that I can see it. That way, I can refer to it any time I need a little extra push. Today, i was able to remind myself that I’ve promised my kids a trip to Disney, and that I have a friend that’s been asking questions about working from home. Those are two big reasons for me to get up and do a great job today!
Have you found your why yet?
If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Take out a piece of paper or grab your free goal-setting worksheet, and figure out what your big goals are. If that doens’t make your why clear, consider the reasons I listed above. Once you have your why, make sure you write it down somewhere you can refer back to any time you need to get motivated!
What is your why? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
